Dear Friends in youth ministry,

Ministry with young people is something I am deeply passionate about. Sharing faith is part of who we are as Catholics, which includes encouraging young people in discipleship, inviting them into our church community and journeying with them as they grow.

Young people are the church of today, not only the church of tomorrow. We are all in relationship with young people in some way, and each young person is important. Young people are a part of our community and we all need to be active in ministry with them to reflect this. We are God’s work of art (cf. Eph 2:10) and this means that every human being, including our young people, needs to be given the best. The best is to help each other to develop an even deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Anointed and Sent is the product of years of consultation with youth ministers across Australia. I am glad that it has been published to give added structure to our efforts.  It provides us with a common language so the many different expressions of youth ministry across Australia can work towards closer networking and unity in diversity. There are many strategies for youth ministry that link to this framework, from the national and diocesan level to youth ministry in parishes and schools.

I encourage everyone to use Anointed and Sent as a resource for reflection and action, and find ways to meet the goals and the focus areas that fit your community.

Yours in Christ
