The Catholic Church in Australia has a rich history of ministry with young people. In addition to the Church’s commitment to education, those engaged in ministry with young people stand on the shoulders of the ministries and models developed since the 1950s, the faith experience of an immigrant population and an increasing awareness of Australia’s place in the universal Catholic Church.

Our Catholic spirituality is enriched by our indigenous people and the gifts that people of all abilities and cultural backgrounds bring to our story. Rural isolation and densely populated urban centres provide genuine challenges and opportunities for ministry.

Following the experience of World Youth Day in 2008, people of all ages wish to be involved in youth ministry. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we, the Catholic Church in Australia, journey forward together, sharing the signs of hope in our ministry with young people.
