Pilgrims will be hosted in the Diocese of Sandhurst for approximately one week before World Youth Day. Exact dates depend on their flight details.
As part of our planning, we would like to know how many people you think your parish can host, so we can best match groups of pilgrims to host parishes.
Definition: Youth Ministry that is Based solely in the local area, Determined by the people in the local Area and specific to the needs of Both the young people and the Adults in each Parish.
Initially to implement this model of Youth Ministry, a core group called the “Parish Planning Team” will need to be formed to survey and assess the needs of the young people within the local area and then plan a comprehensive program to meet those needs.
I'm sure you are aware of the change in people's view of the earth. For thousands of years we thought the earth was flat and if we ventured too far out we would fall off the edge. Then came the discovery that the earth indeed was round, and there was a paradigm shift in the way that people saw their world. In many ways youth ministry is like this. There is an almost subliminal thinking of "This is the way we have always done things, and to change will be a disaster". There is more than one way to work with youth in your parish.
Whilst a parish could spend months planning one fantastic “Youth Mass” with all the trimmings, it would be a one off and then it would be over.
It is important to take time and develop a planning team. A parish would have more on going impact than a youth and liturgy team working together and bringing in changes slowly to the regular liturgy to make it more “youth friendly”.
