Mary Magdalen was a woman who longed for love and acceptance, searching for a place to belong. Luke says that she was cured of seven demons (Luke 8:2), so it was likely that she was not accepted by the society of her time. And having seven demons, she probably didn’t have too many healthy normal friendships with people.
Brisbane Archdiocese Youth and Young Adult Lenten Reflections
For the second year, Youth and Children’s Ministry [Archdiocese of Brisbane] have written a Youth and Young Adults Lenten Program – Gathered for Giving. This resource contains prayers, scripture [from the lectionary cycle], scriptural reflections [written by Fr Paul Chandler], ritual actions, living the Gospel [ways for living your baptismal call in the every day], and WYD reflections.
This program has been written with a particular focus on assisting potential WYD pilgrims to reflect upon scripture and God’s call on their life. Additionally there is a CD that contains audio of the Lenten scriptures, scriptural reflections and the prayer song. Included with this is a copy of Week One of the program, and an order form.
If you would like to find out more information about this program please contact Paul Catchlove on either 07 3336 9170 or catchlovep at bne.catholic.net.au.
Take Jesus at his word - November Reflection
What a crowd! All the customs officers and sinners had heard Jesus. And now they wanted to hear and see HIM personally. The fine, devout and learned people only sent angry views. Obviously they had made mistakes in their lives or took someone else’s money. Now they hadn’t had any more chances to find back into the “good” society – even if they wanted to. And Jesus? Would He tell His message only to the devoutly and “clean” people of the middle-class?
It is difficult to speak about the passion for staring our project, because there was no project planned in the beginning. But there was passion. The idea of sharing monthly impulses of the gospel was born during a Bosnian-German peace initiative in Bosnia. In that time, something around the year 1999, we lived together with about 40 young people for a couple of weeks working on Bosnian war’s destroyed buildings. But the most important aim of that time was to build “invisible buildings”: bridges between our countries (there were several nations participating) – friendships like streets, which nourish a fear-freed living – acts and prayers of concrete love becoming places of confidence and hope.
Welcome to our "take Jesus at his word" reflections. This project was initated by Fr Meinolf Wacker of Paderborn, Germany. These cards are sent out, all over the world, and young people gather in small groups to reflect on the meaning in thier lives.
Sandhurst has a special link with Paderborn, and as well as inviting about 300 young people to our diocese before WYD, we are encouraging all registered pilgrims to reflect on scripture. Through this program, reflecting the same way our German family do, we hope to forge greater links between our young people in the two dioceses.
Lectio Divina (pronounced "Lec-tsee-oh Di-vee-nah") means "Divine Reading" and refers specifically to a method of Scripture reading practiced by monastics since the beginning of the Church.
You can "do" lectio on your own, or with others
Take a passage of scripture - sometimes the gospel for the next weekend is good - helps get you more "in the zone" for when you hear it the next time.
