Bishop Joe's Message re Fires

A message from Bishop Joe about the fires.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I write to you out of deep pastoral concern, both for the people of our fire ravaged parishes of Eaglehawk, Heathcote-Redesdale, Myrtleford, Beechworth, parts of Tallangatta and Wodonga, but also for you who desperately want to help with a need that binds us to those in the fire zones.  Amid the devastation and loss, your overwhelming generosity and preparedness to help has been a source of inspiration and hope to me and to others.

I have been in close conference with my fellow bishops and we are exploring options as to how, as a church, we can best assist in the immediate and longer term

Ecumenical Fire prayer service
The Bishop of Sandhurst, Bishop Joseph Grech, the Anglican Bishop of Bendigo, Bishop Andrew Curnow, the Revd Kevin Dobson of the Uniting Church and other Bendigo Churches have combined to plan an Ecumenical Prayer Service in the Sacred Heart Cathedral, next Monday evening commencing at 7.30pm.

This will be an opportunity for the Community to gather to express their grief at the tragedy that has gripped our State and City and to pray for God’s ongoing love and protection
