www.sym.org.au Your Subscription: [SUBSCRIPTIONS] | Black Stump Festival: 2nd – 5th of October 2009 Miss that WYD buzz and hanging out with a bunch of people where it’s easy to be Christian? Do you want to take part of a great Christian music and worship festival?? Or do you just want to hear great bands including Compliments of Gus and Sons of Korah, who played at our Receive the Power Sandhurst Event ?
Black Stump is a Christian festival of music, arts and teaching, held every year in Sydney. It generally attracts around 5000 people, and has a similar “vibe” to World Youth Day, though obviously on a smaller scale, and in an ecumenical environment. And you camp. Not classroom camping, but camping in a tent, sitting outside round the gas burner (as if it’s a real fire) cooking our own food. Stump’s been going for about 20 years, so they know what they’re doing. They’ve got 80+ great bands, comedy, drama, arts & awesome preachers.
Sandhurst Youth Ministry are taking a bus from the diocese up to Sydney, and are offering 20 places to people 16-25ish to attend Black Stump this year. The cost is $250, and includes your transport, most meals, event entry and all activities, bands and performances. You’ll need extra cash for meals on the road, a fair trade meal at the One World Café, amazing doughnuts at Plunge, and merchandise and music from the bands that you are sure to get right into…. Applications close 18th September, so visit www.sym.org.au for an application form or check out www.blackstump.org.au for bands, speakers, artists and general event info.
Stronger 09: 11th – 13th December 2009 A weekend of reflection, prayer, music and faith, with Rob Galea, Bishop Joe Grech and the SYM team. This is an event for young people who are just not satisfied being ‘Sunday Christians’… for those who want more, and to deepen their spirituality. We will be discussing things like prayer, and what it means to live as a Christian. We will also sing, pray, relax and just have fun getting to know, love and share about God.
The cost will be $99, including accommodation and meals (but not transport). In order to keep the atmosphere right, there are limited places available, which will be on a first-come-first-serve basis… so think and act fast. As the application card states, in order for this weekend to be fruitful, please only send in your application if you can commit to be there for the whole of the weekend.
God does not make rubbish Rob Galea's latest single, premiered at Receive the Power Sandhurst, is "God does not make rubbish".
You can listen online, or download the song (intro offer of one week free download ends 4th September) www.robertgalea.blogspot.com/2009/08/new-song.html It features Bishop Joe, and will eventually be able to be downloaded from itunes. | |
