The cross and icon began their pilgrimage to Australia with a handover from the Germans who hosted World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne, to a delegation of Australians on Palm Sunday 2006 in Rome.
John Smyth and Karen Lunney represented Sandhurst
The cross has been described as the Olympic Torch of World Youth Day. It is now travelling through Australia, having been through oceania including a recent vist to Gizo in the Solomon Islands, bringing hope following the devastation of the tsunami and earthquake that ravaged the region.
We would like to give everyone in the Diocese an opportunity to be a part of this pilgrimage event. To make this possible, the journey of the cross and icon is being planned by each regional WYD committee.
You can be a part of this pilgrimage that has been going for 21 years!
To be part of the journey contact your regional WYD representative today. (see the Journey of the Cross section of the Official WYD site for lots more information). |
