 World Youth Day 2008 (WYD2008) is pleased that the Federal and NSW Governments have confirmed arrangements for the use of Randwick Racecourse for our historic event next year.

A MESSAGE FROM THE WORLD YOUTH DAY 2008 OFFICE
This week the NSW Government permitted WYD 2008 to enter Randwick Racecource to
commence preparatory works for the Papal Vigil and Mass next July.
Despite this good news, some media reporting continues to be based on incorrect
information - three claims in particular need to be corrected:

The Sandhurst2Sydney fund is to help young people from the Diocese to go to World Youth Day who would otherwise be unable to go.

The Overseas Pilgrim Support fund is to help young people from our linked areas, like Cebu, who are financially disadvantaged areas to attend WYD

Over 900 Catholic secondary school students from 11 schools in the Northern, Central and North-Eastern region of Victoria attended a mass rally on Wednesday 12 September at Galen College Wangaratta to prepare for their participation in World Youth Day Sydney 2008.

The three-day Youth Festival takes place in the middle of WYD08 week - 15-20 July 2008 - and will feature music, performing arts, visual art exhibitions, debate, film, community gatherings, street performers, workshops and a vocations expo.

"These are just some of the ways we are encouraging the youth of Australia and the world creatively to express and present their faith," WYD08 Coordinator Bishop Anthony Fisher OP said.
