Schools World Youth Day Rally a huge success
Over 900 Catholic secondary school students from 11 schools in the diocese attended a rally on Wednesday 12 September at Galen College Wangaratta to prepare for their participation in World Youth Day Sydney 2008.
The program included a mix-and mingle of students from different schools, and aims to engage students with the message of World Youth Day through the media of music, drama and peer evangelisation.
The day was facilitated by students from St Edmund’s College Canberra, highlighting their involvement in schools based youth ministry teams. It featured music by “Ascending Rain”, an address by Bishop Joe Grech, and testimonies from past pilgrims Katie Chick (Shepparton) and Emily Walter (Passionist Youth Ministry Team)
A key focus of the event was introducing students to the concept of the WYD Cross and Icon, which will visit Sandhurst in less than six months. Students were encouraged to place prayers on a replica cross as it moved through the crowd – many of which expressed a desire to attend the Sydney event, and to get to know Jesus better.
