Palm Sunday - Hand Over of the WYD Cross and Icon

Palm Sunday in Rome saw the handover of the WYD Cross and Icon from the youth of Australia to the youth of Spain. Over 7000 young Spanish pilgrims made the journey to Rome to be a part of the celebrations. Speeches and photos can be viewed at: http://www.vatican.va/liturgical_year/holy-week/2009/index_en.htm

An Australian Website for Catholic Youth Ministry

Planning is under way for a national website focused on promoting and supporting youth ministry initiatives in Australia. The website will be released in stages over the next six months with stage one anticipated in July 2009.
The website will focus on linking users with youth ministry organisations and provide forums for the promotion and sharing of resources, training and formation opportunities for youth ministry.

Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life

The Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life has been mandated by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference with responsibility for national issues related to marriage and marriage preparation, pro-life issues, natural family planning and pregnancy support, specialist chaplaincies (e.g. for seafarers) and the pastoral care of young people, aged persons, people living with a disability, migrants and refugees, and groups that are seen as marginalised in Church life.

WYD08 Pilgrims' Research Project - Preliminary Report Available

A new report from the ACBC-ACU-Monash Research Project on WYD, supported by WYD Administration: A first look at the Australian pilgrims to World Youth Day 2008: Preliminary survey findings, is now available. Research team leader Fr Michael Mason presented initial impressions from interviews at the Youth Leaders Gathering 2008. This is a first report on the internet survey of pilgrims, with a much more detailed Final Report to come later in the year. To see the report visit: http://dlibrary.acu.edu.au/research/wyd/

ACYC - Australian Catholic Youth Council

The ACYC have met in December 2008 and March 2009. The meetings focused on the development of a strategic plan for the implementation of the YLG outcomes and possible national initiatives and events.

WYD Anniversary Events

In July this year it is anticipated that Dioceses and communities will mark the one year anniversary WYD08 with local celebrations.
