ImageDonations for World Youth Day – Time, Talent and treasure!

So many people are already involved in World Youth Day in their parish and regional committees, it is heartening to see the enthusiasm spread. And not just in Sandhurst, but talking to colleagues from around the country, the good news stories are amazing.

A college in another diocese has mentioned that he has had a Pantec truck donated for the time that the Cross and Icon are in his diocese. This will mean that it can be transported while put together, saving  half an hour at the beginning and end of each “event” in dismantling the Cross- enabling more time for people, young and old, to be involved with prayer, veneration and other activites around the Cross and Icon.

Parramatta diocese had a beautifully restored Bedford truck adapted to take the Cross short distances.
Another random comment when planning an event in one diocese was that there wasn’t much “greenery” around on the stage area. Calling a local supplier to get a quote, they discovered that he was married to one of the assistant principals in a Catholic school, and donated $300 worth of plant hire to liven up the event.

We’re looking for people to think outside the box when it comes to World Youth Day. What connections have you got? In other areas people have donated computers, balloons & helium, swathes of material in WYD colours, staging for events, and of course food and drink. That’s for the journey of the Cross and Icon, promises for Days in the Diocese, and for local events at a parish and regional level.

And don’t just think of material goods. What are you good at? What is your day job? Are you a uni or school student looking for a project or are you a retired “expert” – we’re certainly seeking these in areas of Marketing, events management, media, program co-ordination, fundraising, merchandise sales, desktop publishing and journalism. One student in Design and Technology is working on a WYD project already, and is very excited about the product he is producing with us.

Call us at the chancery (5441 2544), or contact your regional co-ordinator and let us know how you can be actively involved in World Youth Day to make a difference in our diocese.

Almost every event that brings people together also involves food. your help would be very much appreciated.

How about fundraising? Could you help your region in their fundraising efforts?

Do you have stuff you can see helping at a youth event or fundraising event, or access to a business that can hire stuff for free or atcheaper prices?

Considered that licence or certificate like your bus licence, bronze medallion, first aid certificate. what could you do with that?

and of course Pray - Please pray for Sandhurst Youth Ministry, or regional groups and most importantly our young people as they journey towards WYD

Please note: being involved in activities with young people will require you to become an approved volunteer and undertake a working with children check
