Frequently asked questions about registration for WYD in Sandhurst PDF Print E-mail

A list of the most commonly asked questions about registering for WYD in Sandhurst.

IMPORTANT: Please ensure that every person registers as part of a group – or we will not be informed that they have registered. This is the most important step in the process!

All Pilgrims need to have an email address to register .

What if I am under 16?
If a pilgrim will not be 16 by 31st December 2008, they CANNOT register as a World Youth Day pilgrim with a school or parish group, because a group is defined by the accommodation type and the language you speak. Under 16’s are not allowed in the general accommodation, even if they are with a parent or guardian. You can still register to attend as an independent in the care of a parent or guardian, go as part of a family, find your own accommodation and join in the preparation and post WYD fun. It is possible that we could meet up for some of the activities throughout the week

What if I am over 35?
Please contact SYM, and consider registering as a group leader. There will be some training and formation given, and legal issues to consider.

How do I know which pilgrims have registered from my school/parish?
Once you are registered as the leader of your group, you will be emailed ever time someone joins your group. However, someone registers and fails to join a group, we have no way of knowing that they have registered! Please make sure every pilgrim you know is intending to sign up joins the appropriate group.

Can I/my students change/alter details once they have been registered?
Yes. For this reason you need to keep your username and password safe, as these allow you to log back in to your registration details and update/change them as needed.

What if I am in charge of WYD in the school or parish, but do not intend to go to Sydney?
In this case it may be better to have a staff member or older pilgrim or volunteer who will attend World Youth Day sign up as the group leader. Eventually every group must have a leader...

When do registrations for World Youth Day close?
Sydney have not set a closing date for online registrations, however most schools in this area are setting their own closing date for school based pilgrims, due to logistical concerns such as organizing buses.
As a diocese, we need to know ASAP, to order buses. If you leave it too late, there may be no seats left on your bus!

When is payment for World Youth Day due?

Payment does not need to be made at the time of registration – it can be held off until a later date. Sydney has not set a deadline for payment, however most schools are setting their own deadline for students.
Please note: the costs of attending World Youth Day set on the WYD website does NOT cover transport from here to Sydney and back.

Will I stay with my friends?
People of Sandhurst will essentially travel together and stay in accommodation that is within a relatively close proximity.
For organisational purposes, we have split the Diocese into regions (rather than Deaneries), and each region is further divided into Parishes. Every endeavour will be made for people of the one Region to be accommodated at the same venue.

Can I leave this to the last minute? It’s ages away, its not that far- only in Sydney, and I don't know if I really really really want to go just yet...

Think about it from the organisers point of view here in the diocese—we have to organise busses for everyone, negotiate accommodation we put people in and run a lot of other activities. If we decided to put this group of 100
people in a spot that takes 100 people, an extra 10-15 may mean re-organising accommodation across the whole diocese. Nightmare!
Be nice, register early… You won’t regret it, I promise!
