Contingency skills PDF Print E-mail
Even with plenty of well thought out planning, accidents and incidents do occur, and you need to have processes in place to deal with it. You should work out a process that best suits your group. Consider the following in your process: 1.    Advise leaders so they are aware of the situation & can help coordinate the response.
2.    Phone emergency services.
3.    Make sure everyone is accounted for.
4.    Advise the sponsoring body. If it is a parish event, the parish priest should be informed straight away.
5.    Inform parents or guardians of what has happened but only give the necessary information. Don’t sensationalise.
6.    Make sure everyone is OK emotionally. Offer some reassuring words for other young people and arrange a debrief for the leaders.
7.    An incident report should be filled out which keeps an accurate record of what happened, who was involved and the steps taken to deal with the situation.
