CDOS 2024 Year in Review

38 Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst Year in Review 2024 From Pancakes to Purpose CARITAS Project Compassion The theme for Project Compassion 2024 was, “For All Future Generations”. It has been drawn from the story of the burning bush in Exodus 3:1-20. 1965 Parishes and schools in the Diocese raised an impressive $424,847 for Caritas’ Project Compassion in 2024, reflecting the incredible generosity of the people of Sandhurst. Diocesan Social Justice Coordinator, Kerry Stone, said she was grateful to contributors who have helped change lives in many impoverished countries for generations to come. The Campaign was launched around the Diocese with the now traditional pancake festivities on Shrove Tuesday, calling on participants to take action to fundraise for Project Compassion over the Lenten season. Schools and parishes held walkathons (Caritas Ks), pancake stalls, cake stalls, raffles and other ventures to raise funds for Project Compassion – compassion in action. During Lent, we are called to fast, pray and give alms so supporting Project Compassion is a great way to proclaim our faith and help those in need. Participating in fundraising campaigns benefits, not only the recipients of the funds, but also enriches the lives of the fundraisers, fostering a sense of community, purpose, and fulfilment through their generous efforts.
